We come alongside local leaders

We stand with nonprofits who serve their communities with steady courage and a clear sense of responsibility, and we count it a privilege to know them.

Built from years on the ground

501 Collective was formed by people who spent years in communities around the world, inspired by the people they met and the work those leaders were already doing.

We started in 2021 with a simple conviction: the people closest to a need should lead the solution, and they deserve friends who show up for the long haul. So we built 501 Collective to stand beside them and give their work an extra boost.

Since then, hundreds of travelers have met our partners in person, our community has funded hundreds of projects, and dozens of families have new homes, from Belize to Ukraine. The names and faces behind those numbers are why we keep going.

What’s in a name?

In the US, a charity is called a 501(c)(3), after its tax code. We’re a collective of them: nonprofits going further together.

Relational and practical

We listen first. We come alongside. They go further.

Every partnership starts as a friendship. We learn what our partners are building, shape solutions together with content, funding, volunteer teams and guidance, and then cheer the loudest as their work reaches more people.

Big hearts, small teams

Nonprofits accomplish far more than the size of their teams would suggest. Some respond to war or displacement. Others open doors where opportunity has been limited for generations.

They do it with grit, joy and creativity, and their work deserves to be seen. Our partners in Romania help anyone who comes to their door, from any country, because their mission is simply to help others. Our travelers have cared for children with disabilities in India and played wheelchair basketball alongside a team in Uganda. We add our strengths to what leaders like them are already building.

“When you see that someone cares, it helps you to believe that something good is still there for you.”

Joy is part of the work

We tell these stories with joy on purpose. The people we serve are more than their hardest days, and the world should see them laughing, dancing and leading.

Room to move forward

We step into projects shaped by the people who live there. Our part is to help secure resources, share their story and offer support at the right moment.

  • Hands rinse clothes in a bright blue tub of clean water

    Clean water

Safe water close to home where access has been limited, so mornings go to school and work.

  • A newly built wooden home raised on stilts

    Homes rebuilt

Local teams rebuilding homes and centers, so families have a safe place to land and to stay.

  • A woman in a green headwrap smiles as she prepares food in an outdoor kitchen

    Families fed

Meals which strengthen schools and clinics, and give children the energy to learn and play.

Since 2021, our community has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for projects like these.

The long view matters

Lasting change grows from local leadership. We aim for projects which become sustainable, so the work keeps growing long after we step back.
